Protean Wins Autocar’s 2025 Innovation Award

We are delighted to announce that Protean Electric and it’s ground-breaking In-Wheel Motor technology, has won Autocar’s Innovation Award for 2025.

As one of the most well respected and widely read automotive publications, Autocar’s prestigious award marks another milestone for Protean Electric as the global leader of In-Wheel Motors.

Amongst industry icons such as Philippe Krief of Renault & Alpine, Ho Sung Song of Kia, Peter Rawlinson of Lucid, and esteemed brands such as Porsche, Alpine, McLaren, Kia and others taking awards, Protean found itself in illustrious company.

This award is clearly testament to the last 15 years of pioneering In-Wheel Motor technology for widespread applications in the automotive field, and the hard work, passion and dedication of the team at Protean. It also shows, as has been seen from recent OEM announcements, that In-Wheel Motor technology is  now seeing wider adoption in mainstream automotive applications.

Protean’s CEO, Andrew Whitehead, had the opportunity to sit down with Autocar prior to the announcement to discuss Protean’s history, achievements and outlook for the future. The article can be found in Autocar’s digital and print editions.

The In-Wheel Motor market is entering a phase of rapid growth and Protean’s dedication to support this growth continues with our continual development of higher performance, lower cost technologies and products to meet our customers’ needs. Protean’s journey thus far has been both challenging and fulfilling, and so this award comes as further recognition of the technology’s potential to make better electric vehicles.

Protean extends its many thanks also to Autocar for the award and subsequent coverage.
