Protean Electric Presents at the Advanced E-Motor Technology 2017 Conference

Protean Electric, the global leader of advanced in-wheel electric drive, will present “A powertrain in the wheels – Extreme integration,” at 3:20 p.m. on Day 2 – February 15th at the 5th Annual International Conference on Advanced E-Motor Technology 2017 in Berlin.

Dr. Chris Hilton, Chief Technology Officer at Protean, will describe how Protean has integrated a high torque electric motor, compact inverter and friction brake to form a complete drive-train in the wheel. This novel solution offers significant advantages such as improved efficiency and superior driving performance provided by torque vectoring. Additional benefits include cost savings due to fewer parts and the flexibility to create radical new vehicle design.

Dr. Hilton will also describe how Protean has developed a standard for in-wheel electric motors to ensure that they meet the requirements and expectations of vehicle manufacturers, including durability, shock and tolerance, climatic and environmental stresses and electrical safety. Finally, Dr. Hilton will conclude with his thoughts on the future of in-wheel drive-train technology.

Protean’s in-wheel electric drive system is an award-winning technology that is an integral part of a hybrid powertrain system when paired with a traditional internal combustion engine. It is also delivers sufficient power to be the only source of traction drive in electric vehicles.
